Biography:
Luca Signorelli (c. 1441/1445 – 16 October 1523) was a Renaissance painter from Cortona, Tuscany, known for his exceptional draftsmanship and dramatic use of foreshortening. His fresco cycle of the Last Judgment in Orvieto Cathedral, completed between 1499 and 1503, is widely regarded as his masterpiece.
In his early forties, he returned to Cortona after working in major artistic centers such as Florence, Siena, and Rome, where he contributed to a now-lost section of the Sistine Chapel. Though he settled permanently in Cortona, he continued to travel throughout the region to complete commissions. According to contemporary accounts, he was likely trained by Piero della Francesca.
